The Pedicled TRAM Flap for Breast Reconstruction: Animation of the Procedure

The TRAM (Transverse Rectus Abdominis Muscle) flap procedure requires taking the entire Rectus Muscle (1 set of the 6-pack abdominal muscles) to reconstruct the breast.  It can be done as a Pedicle Flap (as shown here, the blood vessel and muscle is still attached), or as a free TRAM flap requiring microsurgery to reconnect the tissue to blood vessels in the chest area.    The DIEP flap procedure has evolved from the free TRAM flap where the muscle is preserved and the skin and fat is removed from the abdomen with only the blood vessels.

My mom has always considered having a procedure done like this. She has always been unhappy with herself and thinks this would fix a lot of her problems. I'll have to tell her to look into this and see if this helps at all! Thanks for the video and brief dialog! http://www.drmjtrovato.com

That's so great that these women where able to feel confident and happy after battling something as awful as breast cancer. I am so happy that reconstructive surgery exists, I think its really important to help people feel normal after a traumatic event. It seems like reconstructive surgery can do that for people.

Plastic surgery has such an immense capacity to help people who are in some difficult positions. I know that it would be hard for me to have to live every day with insecurities about a major part of my body. even worse than that would be dealing with something that causes legitimate harm to myself. It's because of these reasons that we really need plastic surgery.

I have a friend that had breast cancer is now in need of reconstruction breast augmentation. It is good to know that there have been advances in this type of medication. It seems like breast augmentation would really help my friend gain back her confidence. http://www.breastauglipocenter.com/breast-augmentation/
